Application

Preparation

Wood Surfaces

1. Sand the surface thoroughly and evenly using 120–150 grit sandpaper. If the surface has been previously treated, remove the existing finish completely.

2. Remove all sanding dust using a soft brush, paint brush or air hose.

3. If using a Koate Creative Base or Colour Base pre-treatment, apply it at this stage in accordance with the relevant application instructions.

MDF and Similar Surfaces, including Valchromat

1. Sand the surface thoroughly and evenly using 150 grit sandpaper or a suitable Scotch-Brite style pad.

2. Remove any rotary sanding marks using 180 grit sandpaper.

3. Remove all sanding dust using a soft brush, paint brush or air hose.

Pre-Treatment

If using Koate Colour Base or Creative Base:

1. Apply to suitable wood surfaces in accordance with the relevant Technical Data Sheet.

2. Lightly sand if required and clean the surface thoroughly before applying One Coat Wood Oil.

Mixing

Mix Part A and Part B before application.

Standard mixing ratio:

• 1L Part A + 200ml Part B

• 500ml Part A + 100ml Part B

• 100ml Part A + 20ml Part B

For commercial or high-use areas, up to 300ml Part B per litre of Part A may be recommended depending on the application.

Once mixed and resealed, the product has an extended pot life and can remain usable for several days.

Application to Wood Surfaces

1. Apply the oil using a white application pad, cotton cloth, floor polisher or hand polisher fitted with a white pad.

2. Work the product evenly into the surface.

3. After approximately 5 minutes, remove all excess oil using a clean cotton cloth.

4. Ensure that no excess oil remains on the surface, as this may affect drying.

5. The surface will normally be touch dry after approximately 2–3 hours and dry after approximately 24 hours.

Application to MDF and Valchromat Surfaces

1. Apply using a white application pad or hand polisher with a suitable pad.

2. Add a small amount of oil to the pad and begin in one corner, working the oil evenly into the surface.

3. Continue working from the wet area into the untreated surface.

4. Remove any excess oil using a soft sponge or clean cloth.

5. Ensure the surface is evenly finished with no excess product remaining.

Important Safety Information

Oil-soaked cloths and application pads can generate heat through oxidation and may present a risk of spontaneous combustion.

After use, place used cloths and pads in water or otherwise dispose of them safely in accordance with the product safety instructions.

Aftercare

Cleaning

Allow the surface to cure for 5-7 days before wet cleaning.

After this period, clean using water and Koate Soap.

Maintenance

Maintain treated surfaces using the appropriate Koate maintenance products.
